Women's Cyber Games Finals 2019: Eliminating Barriers

Women's Cyber Games Finals 2019: Eliminating Barriers

by Paramie Jayakody

On the 1st of June, life went on as normal. Everyone was at home enjoying sleeping late on Saturday morning. Well, almost everyone. Over at Play Arena, everything was beautiful chaos as all the prominent female gamers of Sri Lanka geared up to battle it out in the first ever SLT eSports Women's Cyber Games 2019.

Out of the 8 contestants competing for the top spot, each had their own preferred game out of the five titles featured- Call of Duty 4, Mortal Kombat, Mario Kart, Subway Surfers and eRacer (Project Cars). Being the best at a certain game got you 8 points, with everyone behind you getting one point less than the one in front.

But after a few hours of (virtual) war, here’s what the final scoreboard looked like:

Call of Duty 4

First place: Kavindee V!n[K]yKariyawasam (Clan: Noob Alliance)

Runner up: Kasunitee-heeLokuarachchi (Clan: Noob Alliance)

Third place: Janithi M-eS|SaLly CrUsher Gamage (Clan: Max Esports)

Mortal Kombat:

First place: Gnavindyabuttercupmagammulla (Clan: Xiphos Esports)

Runner up: DhinelkaPnX|BitSyAnthony (Clan: Phoenix Gaming)

Third place: Kavindee V!n[K]yKariyawasam (Clan: Noob Alliance)

Mario Kart:

First place: Kavindee V!n[K]yKariyawasam (Clan: Noob Alliance)

Runner-up: YasaraWar QueenDe Silva (Standalone)

Third place: Gnavindyabuttercupmagammulla (Clan: Xiphos Esports)

Subway Surfers:

First place: Gnavindyabuttercupmagammulla (Clan: Xiphos Esports)

Runner-up: AsankaM-es/ SupergirlSajini (Clan: Max Esports)

Third place: Kasunitee-heeLokuarachchi (Clan: Noob Alliance)

eRacer (Project Cars):

First place: DhinelkaPnX|BitSyAnthony (Clan: Phoenix Gaming)

Runner-up: YasaraWar QueenDe Silva (Standalone)

Third place: Kasunitee-heeLokuarachchi (Clan: Noob Alliance)

Once all the individual titles were done, the points were tallied up, and this is where things got complicated. Despite 8 finalists, the competition was so steep that there were multiple ties in the final rankings! So after much hassle with finances, the final rankings and prizes were as follows:

1. Gnavindyabuttercupmagammulla (Prize money: Rs. 50,000)

2. Kavindee V!n[K]yKariyawasam (Prize money: Rs. 17,500)

3. DhinelkaPnX|BitSyAnthony (Prize money: Rs. 17,500)

4. Kasunitee-heeLokuarachchi (Prize money: Rs. 3,750)

5. YasaraWar QueenDe Silva (Prize money: Rs. 3,750)

6. AsankaM-es/ SupergirlSajini (Prize money: Rs. 2,500)

7. Laroshichix0rGanegoda Wijayatilake (Prize money: Rs. 2,500)

8. Janithi M-eS|SaLly CrUsher Gamage (Prize money: Rs. 2,500)

And with that, the first ever Women's Cyber Games event organised by Gamer.LK (in collaboration with SLT eSports powering the event and FriMi, the official digital banking partner) came to an end. Heartened by the success of this event, Gamer LK expects to bring this back bigger and better next year!
