Project Pathfinder: Finding Your Path After A/Ls

Project Pathfinder: Finding Your Path After A/Ls

This is the best time for students after A/Ls to be thinking about their future career path. If you already have an idea of what you would want to do, you can go on to choose the appropriate higher education institute to further your education and start working towards your goals early on. But while you are still young and exploring new ideas and thoughts, chances are you might go with the masses and select the most popular career choices. We see many students not being aware of plethora of opportunities available and limiting themselves to conventional career paths and missing out on better opportunities out there, merely due to lack of knowledge, or making wrong career moves that do not fit their passions. So how can you make the right career choice that ultimately sets you up for success?

Rotaract Clubs of University Alumni and the Rotaract Club of Excellence along with Interact Clubs of Ananda College, Nalanda College, Colombo North, Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Kingswood College, Mahamaya Girls’ School, Maliyadewa College and S. Thomas’ Bandarawela jointly coordinated the Project Pathfinder-Phase II under the project tagline “An ultimate guide to choosing a career that fits best for you!” to guide students on the subject. Phase I had been conducted on the topic of “Skills Needed – Post Covid”.

The webinar was on December 12th for the students of Commerce and Arts Stream and, December 13th for Mathematics and Science Stream. Webinar comprised a 30-minute discussion for each stream, followed by a Question and Answer session. Panel was comprised of Ms. Chiranthi Senanayake (2020 Diana Award recipient and Youth Empowerment Advocate), Mr. Uwin Ariyarathna (an Assistant lecturer at University of Peradeniya and the Most Outstanding student of University of Sri Jayewardenepura Year 2019), Mr. Mandapa Pandithage (a final year student of Engineering Faculty of University of Moratuwa and the Most outstanding Anandian in 2016) and Ms. Hasna Riyal (PhD (Reading) in Immune-Parasitology from University of Colombo).

The webinar can be viewed from Rotaract Club of Excellence YouTube Channel.

A special thanks goes out to all the partners of the project; Media Partner Chokolaate Magazine, official learning partner itutorsl and official knowledge partner Easylink Academy. It was a genuine pleasure to witness more than 500 registrations and 250 live participants joined together throughout the two-day webinar series, and to receive overwhelming responses of the positive impact we made on them. Rotaract and Interact Club members of the project also expressed their encouraging experience on Pathfinder with us.

“We gained knowledge on variety of options we have as students who are planning to apply for higher studies and got a good understanding about what industries/fields will stand out in the future. Also, by getting the chance to be in the committee, I personally learned a lot on the process behind a successful project.”

“We wanted to make a change in the traditional system of every student wanting to be a Doctor and an Engineer. In Pathfinder, we created awareness on other possible career paths a student can choose.”
