Prajashakthi Project Rotaract Club of Panadura

When the going gets tough, the tough get going.

COVID-19 global pandemic has affected each and every one of us in some way or the other. But some of us are in a much more difficult situation that the rest of us.

The Project "Prajaashakthi" (ප්‍රජාශක්ති) was initiated by the Rotaract Club of Panadura to be of strength to our own fellow members of the community who need it during these desperate times. The main focus was to provide essential food items through a pack of dry rations.

The Project "Prajaashakthi" (ප්‍රජාශක්ති) exended from the 30th of March till the 15th of April and we are happy to say that we were able to help 100 families through the phase 1 and 2 of this project.

Through this initiativewe helped 100 families who otherwise would have found their livelihood by engaging in daily wage jobs and also who do not receive Samrudhi or any such government assistance or payments.

The members of the Rotaract Club of Panadura helped us to identify these 100 families who live in and around the areas of Panadura, Nalluruwa, Wadduwa, Waskaduwa, Kaluthara and Horana.

Each of these families were given a Rs. 1000/- worth pack of dry rations which contained  5kg of Rice, 1kg of Dhal, 1kg of Sugar, 1kg of Bombay Onions, 1 tin of Salmon, 1 packet of Salt and 1 packet of Chillie powder.

We were able to successfully complete this project and bring a smile to these families and be of some assistance even for a short period of time. What is more important is caring for one another in these hard times. If each one of us can think about how the rest of the people in our nearest neighborhood live through out this time we will be more sensitive and empathetic towards their needs.

Many members of the Rotaract Club of Panadura and their friends and family members, in and out of our club shared their time, energy and monetary funds with the kind thought to help another human being in these hard times with the club's spirit of Yeoman's Service Towards Humanity.

Mr. Pramila Silva and Superintendent of Police Sanjaya Irasingha of  Panadura South Police Division should be specially mentioned for supporting with transportation and for  allowing us to do the process smoothly by granting a travelling pass during this time under the curfew.

We took all possible precautionary measures through out this process from collection of donations to buying and delivering of the material until the distributing of these goods to respective families,  to ensure the safety of our members and others who were directly and indirectly involved.

As a club, Rotaract Club of Panadura respects the privacy of the receipients of these donations. Therefore images were published in a way that it would protect the identity of these families.

Further as a club being accountable and transparent has become one of those mandatory priorities. Hence we have published the comprehensive budget of this project on our "Praja Shakthi" facebook page.

We are very much grateful to all the sponsors, well wishers, past and present members and their families who have been supporting the Rotaract Club of Panadura to grow within the past 11 years.
