The 52nd Installation of the Rotaract Club of Colombo

The 52nd Installation of the Rotaract Club of Colombo

The 30th of October 2021 marked a sentimental milestone for the Rotaract Club of Colombo as they took on their 52nd year as the premier club in Rotaract. Rotaractor Chedliya Ishak assumed responsibilities as the prestigious 52nd President alongside her capable and adept board of directors.

The hybrid event kicked off with each speaker showing confidence in their assigned roles and each member of the organizing committee displaying a sense of enjoyment as they watched their work unfold before them. Headlining Speakers such as President Aroshi Nanayakkara of the Rotary Club of Colombo (2021/22) and Mr. Dian Gomes were regaled for their words of wisdom and successes in their respective industries. District Rotaract Representative (2021/22) Akhila Wijetunga shared thoughts on his years in Rotaract and the sheer tenacity and dedication it takes to be a Rotaractor. District Rotaract Chair, Rotarian Marshad Barry explained how the Rotaract Club of Colombo is in league to help with the project of reopening a school under the project headline of Rotary: Stop The Spread.

The projects that the club has undertaken so far have held them in good stead spanning decades and have earned them a reputation for consistency and dedication. Projects such as ‘Charity Bus’ marks a successful decade. Other projects such as ‘Christmas with A Difference’ and ‘Escape to Paradise’ have exceeded the 10-year mark. These projects require huge amounts of skill and coordination to pull off and we can see this level of said skill within the club.

The 52nd Installation of the Rotaract Club of Colombo set the precedent in uncertain times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Physical attendance to the event at Hotel Galadari was only allowed should the attending party be vaccinated. This goes to show that while Sri Lanka is moving forward as it should, there are bodies of people still able to keep up with the standard of safety not only for themselves but for all those around them. Abiding by the law and setting a new standard for CSR and humanity is everything this country needs from the new generation of leaders.

Go forth and have no fear.
