La Photographie 2020

Photography is capturing the moment of life in a frame, the moments that we
treasure forever immortalized with the click of a button. Though it only takes a
click of a button to capture the most treasured moments of life, there is actually a
lot of hard work and dedication behind each PERFECT capture.
Each and every one of us is a photographer when we hold a camera, but to be a
perfect and a professional photographer, it is important to learn the art of it. Thus,
the Rotaract Club of Kandy initiated a virtual photography competition followed
by a photography workshop for all the enthusiastic photographers across the
island – ‘La Photographie 2020’
The initiative eventuated in two phases, in which the first was a photography
competition under the categories Landscape and Street photography. There were
350 plus entries received since 29th November 2020 from passionate
photographers, out of which three winners were selected from each category. The
competition was judged by well renowned and experienced photographers Mr.
Pradeep Gamage and Mr. Ashan Upekshaka.

The second phase of La Photographie 2020 was an online photography workshop
held via zoom. The workshop on Basics and landscape photography was
conducted by one of the most experienced and award-winning landscape
photographers Mr. Priyantha Bandara on the 26th of February 2021.


The workshop on Street and Wildlife photography was also conducted by an expert
and professional Wildlife photographer Mr. Chamal Jayasekara on the 27th of
February 2021.


On each day, the 100+ participants were able to benefit from the workshop and
they were able to acquire valuable knowledge on becoming proficient in the
technical aspects of photography with a digital camera. Moreover, they were
able to gather knowledge to develop and practice skills using digital
photography tools. The rotaractors, interactors and other members representing
numerous clubs all over the island had the opportunity of learning how to shoot
with digital cameras and mobile phone cameras maximizing the quality of
output in order to showcase the aesthetic value and thebeauty of the capture.
La Photographie 2020 successfully wrapped up leaving behind a hope to return
next year.
