Women with Wings
The Rotaract Club of Informatics Institute of Technology (RACIIT) was chartered on the 24th of April 2010 under the sponsorship of the Rotary Pan Colombo. For the past 9 years our club has strived to give an opportunity for the youth to develop as professionals, engage in community service activities and improve in international understanding. Our energetic Rotaractors focus their strength in numerous areas where they strive to uplift our society through various community-based projects under the seven avenues, Club Services, IT, Sports, International Services, Professional development, Finance, and Public relations. Along with our well known and award-winning projects like Striving for a Miracle, E-Mithudama, Hot dog showdown, Trailblazers, HaXmas and Seva, we also do several other projects annually to raise funds in aid of our community service projects and we carry out 90+ projects throughout the year. All efforts put towards this movement is to sustain humanity and cultivate relationships with one another which in return makes a huge positive impact in our lives.
‘Women with Wings’ is a project proposed by the International Service Avenue of the Rotaract Club of IIT which focuses on women empowerment. International services avenue is responsible for developing programs and activities that promote international understanding and goodwill towards all people and expose club members and the community at large to the cultures of other countries. It also exchanges ideas and seeking common solutions to challenges interacting with the International Service Committees of other clubs in the district and beyond.
This project guides young women to be independent, strengthen their personalities and to make them believe that they can be whomever they want to be in the future. Our campaign focuses on empowering women from all backgrounds and ethnicities as we want to see more women take on significant roles in the society.
Feminism is a range of social movements aimed at defining, establishing, and defending equal political, economic, and social rights and equal opportunities for women. Feminism incorporates the position that societies prioritize the male point of view, and that women are treated unjustly within those societies.
Feminist movements have campaigned and continue to campaign for women’s rights, including the right to: vote, hold public office, work, earn equal pay, own property, receive education, enter contracts, and have equal rights within marriage. Women are being sexually harassed everyday all around the world and this is one of the main reasons why women need to be more empowered. The purpose behind these projects is to educate young women about the problems that women face today and how to overcome them to achieve your goals in life.
These matters have not been addressed in the past few decades but with the evolution of technology certain areas have become much more accessible in the world right now, so people have become much more vocal, sharing their experiences with the world on social media and in public as well. Organizations and committees are established with the pure purpose of empowering women to reach their goals and dreams in life without setting borders because of the reasons that the society has set upon us.
The reason why we are organizing this project is that we need to educate the young generation about the difficulties that women go through so that they will make sure that they do not make the same mistakes and that in the future they will make women more empowered and make sure that women have equal rights within the society.
